With the support of the European Union (EU), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organized interactive two-day long training sessions on the Validation of qualifications subject. The training was held to complete the program on Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Implementation of the quality standard requires a rigorous management system to be in place to ensure complete adherence to the international quality scheme of GMP. The training, which was organized on 12-13 December 2022, marked the conclusion of the program which commenced in May 2022.
The training was held for the Georgian biopharmaceutical cluster, which brings together both bacteriophage and herbal pharmaceutical companies and their supporting institutions and aims to help members develop competitiveness, increase sales and gain access to new markets.
The training program was organized under the UN Joint Program on Innovative Action for Private Sector Competitiveness in Georgia. The program is funded by the European Union (EU) with a budget of USD 6 million and implemented by four UN agencies – the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The training was led by both local and international highly qualified experts who combined the theoretical component with exercises, workshops, and individual coaching sessions. The training was held with the involvement of 20 members of pharmaceutical companies among them, 75% were female.
The program received great interest and feedback from the beneficiaries, and the European Union and (UNIDO) will continue to support the Georgian biopharmaceutical cluster in the future in various directions.
